Porn induced erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) in men is an occurrence of difficulties in achieving and maintaining an erection. ED occurs when the penis does not get enough blood and the reasons for this can be different, including psychological ones.

Excessive watching of pornographic material can be the cause of an abnormal decrease in libido and the occurrence of porn-induced erectile dysfunction (PIED) in sexually active men. There is a condition when a man does not experience sexual arousal in the presence of his regular partner or it is insufficient for erection and sexual act.

When a healthy man often visits sites with pornographic content, other problems in sexual health and behavior may occur other than erectile dysfunction, namely:

  • premature ejaculation;
  • decreased interest in sex;
  • difficulty reaching orgasm;
  • reduced orgasmic intensity.

At the time of watching XXX video clips, the brain produces a chemical called dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter and may cause intense sexual feelings. The overabundance of dopamine in the body promotes decrease in sexual desire and pleasure that leads to the development of porn-induced erectile dysfunction.

Sometimes, the internet porn becomes the first sexual experience, because of which misconceptions about sex are formed in a young man. Difficulties may arise in communicating with a partner, in the family, as well as low self-esteem may develop in males watching pornography at a young age.

When patients with PIED are trying to interact with a real sexual partner, they cannot achieve the necessary stimulation and are unable to maintain erection. Among the negative consequences of regular porn watching, the patient may experience one or several mental disorders at once, for example:

  • depression;
  • pornography addiction;
  • social anxiety disorder.

Because of the videos with sex scenes, regular sex no longer meets their expectations, and they no longer enjoy sex they experienced before. Often, patients with porn-induced erectile dysfunction do not experience enough sexual arousal in the presence of their regular sexual partner; herewith they do not experience any problems with sexual health when watching porn.

Adult content is freely available on the Internet, so men with erection problems watch video containing sex scenes to maintain a high level of sexual arousal. Later, men find themselves in a difficult situation, when they are not able to maintain erection if they do not have the opportunity to watch porn.

In addition to excessive porn watching, erectile dysfunction may also occur for other reasons, for example, because of a damage to the nerves, smooth muscles or tissues in the penis.

Several months may take to improve sexual health in patients with porn-induced erectile dysfunction and this period may vary in different people. The recovery process consists of several stages, the first of which is abstinence from porn and masturbation.

After several weeks of abstinence, the need for stimulation using porn decreases in the man and his libido increases. Then, morning erections begin to arise and sexual attraction to the partner returns.
